Albert Schweitzer
Albert Schweitzer
Albert Schweitzer was a man of many parts: he was a medical missionary, Nobel Peace Laureate, organist, Bach scholar, Christian theologian and philosopher. During his lifetime he was an inspiration to millions of people.
One of the primary objects of the Schweitzer Institute is to stimulate research which is both about Albert Schweitzer's life and work and related to the many important subjects with which he was concerned.
The Schweitzer Institute's governing body reflects the remarkable diversity of the man himself: we are drawn from a wide range of fields including theology, philosophy, music, education and healthcare.
A crisis of immense proportions is threatening the future of the planet, and the responsibility for addressing this crisis lies within ourselves.
Albert Schweitzer’s philosophy was firmly rooted in action, and this fusion of thought and activity lies close to the heart of the Schweitzer Institute’s initiatives.
We endorse the Earth Charter as one of our primary objects. The Charter was launched in 2000 after an extensive process of international consultation.
